The fall is always busy with events and programs, several are listed below! If you are hosting a public program, please be sure to let us know so that E2Tech can promote it to our members.
The federal government approved America’s first offshore wind turbine research site. The research array will test floating offshore wind platform technology designed by the University of Maine and deployed by its development partner, Diamond Offshore Wind. The floating system was recently awarded a $12.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy for its innovative design. With up to 12 turbines, the primary purpose of the array is to evaluate floating offshore wind technology and the energy it produces as a renewable resource. Yesterday’s announcement by the Governor quotes several E2Tech members.
The US EPA announced $40M in grants to to communities across Maine: $7.7M to 15 school districts to buy 38 clean school buses; $22M to eight communities for brownfields assessment and cleanup, and $11M in supplemental funding for four ongoing brownfields initiatives. The Brownfields funding helps transform once-polluted, vacant, and abandoned properties into community assets, while helping to create jobs for our members and spuring economic revitalization in overburdened communities. Some of these funds will flow to E2Tech members; on June 12, E2Tech did a well-attended program in Lewiston with a presentation by leaders of the EPA Brownfields team.
E2Tech finished its 2023-24 fiscal year on June 30. While our old tax returns are online, the newest isn’t available yet. However, we can report that our income was flat or grew in our four program areas: memberships, event event, contracts, and philanthropy. You elect the members of the board, and in June your board adopted a budget calling for growth of about 50% over the prior fiscal year’s actual income. Members and contracts are each expected to be one-third of income, with the final third coming from program registrations (12%) and philanthropy (21%). Questions about operations, programs, plans, and proposals are welcome: eric@E2tech.org.
