Construction of battery energy storage is essential to efficiently reach our renewable energy goals.  It is a necessary compliment to capture energy that is otherwise lost due to the variability of renewable energy generation, and would help reduce the use of high carbon emitting peaker plants in the New England energy grid. Maine is a national leader in renewable energy generation, why not in battery storage?  Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) require different market drivers, and many developers feel market drivers and infrastructure are currently limiting the ability for BESS to truly take off in Maine & New England.

What are the challenges facing battery energy storage?  How can BESS capacity catch up with our renewable generation?  Join E2Tech for a panel discussion aimed at identifying obstacles and clearing the path to realizing the full benefits of incorporating battery energy storage systems into Maine's energy grid. Our panelists will:

  1. Provide a high level understanding of the benefits of BESS.
  2. Provide an Overview of latest policy effort updates in Maine.
  3. Discuss market drivers are needed for BESS to operate.
  4. Identify the current market/technical impediments, and possible solutions.
